Audio recorders
An audio recorder is a technical device used to record acoustic sounds, which can then be played back multiple times whenever you want. Today, audio is also recorded with mobile devices, dictation machines or answering machines. In most cases the sound is recorded via integrated microphones.
Thomas Alva Edison is the inventor of the first audio recorder. The device he developed made it possible to record sounds and tones for the first time and to play them back later. In the following years the device was further developed into the gramophone and later into the vinyl record.
Since 1980, there have been digital audio recorders that function as CD recorders, for example. The most common recorders today save the sounds onto an internal memory card. At Photospecialist you'll find a wide range of audio recorders from well-known manufacturers such as Tascam.
Handheld recorder
A handheld recorder is used specifically for mobile recordings because it's a portable device. But the device is also used for home recordings. You can record not only instruments, but also speech and other sounds. If, however, you want to record your vocals with good quality, you should use other devices. The device is built so that the microphone, the memory and the A/D converter are all integrated into the recorder. On expensive handheld recorders you can usually connect extra instruments via so-called combo inputs. In appearance, handheld recorders look like dictation machines or mobile phones. They also got their name because of their extreme similarity to a mobile phone. Standard handheld recorders usually run on batteries. Since the so-called LCD screen has built-in lighting, the mobile device can also be used at night or in the dark. If you're looking for a user-friendly yet handy device with which you can record something, you should definitely go for this type of recorder.
