The RX10 V compared: four cameras side by side
For those who want to capture everything without changing lenses
Whether you photograph wildlife, capture sports events, travel or shoot landscapes: a camera with a fixed superzoom lens covers a wide range of situations. Compact enough to take anywhere, versatile enough for any subject.
The Sony RX10 V, Sony RX10 IV, Panasonic Lumix TZ300 and Nikon Coolpix P1100 are all built around that principle, but differ greatly in how they put it into practice. Zoom range, sensor size, speed, size and video capabilities vary. In the overview below, you can see what each camera offers per specification.
The four cameras
Sony RX10 V
The RX10 V brings the technology of the Alpha series to an all-in-one camera. The 20.1-megapixel 1.0-inch stacked Exmor RS sensor and BIONZ XR processor deliver true-to-life colours and sharp detail, even at higher ISO values. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm covers a full 25x optical zoom range with Optical SteadyShot and focusing from approx. 3 cm.
AI recognition automatically tracks people, animals, birds, insects and vehicles, and Fast Hybrid AF with approx. 575 points shoots up to 30fps without blackout. For video: 4K up to 120fps, S-Log3, S-Cinetone and 4:2:2 10-bit. The body is weather-resistant and charges via USB-C.
Sony RX10 IV
(no longer available)
The RX10 IV (no longer available) shares the proven ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm lens and 20.1-megapixel 1.0-inch stacked sensor with the RX10 V. Fast Hybrid AF with 315 points and eye detection for people and animals ensures sharp images of moving subjects, at up to 24fps.
For video, the RX10 IV offers 4K up to 30fps, HFR slow motion in Full HD and S-Log2/S-Log3 for a professional workflow. The camera has a tilting touchscreen and a 0.39-inch OLED viewfinder.
Panasonic Lumix TZ300
The Lumix TZ300 combines a 20.1-megapixel 1.0-inch BSI CMOS sensor with a Leica DC Vario-Elmar 24-360mm zoom in a body that fits in a jacket pocket. The 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S. stabilises even at longer focal lengths, and focusing is possible from approx. 3 cm.
The TZ300 films in 4K up to 30fps and has no built-in viewfinder. Weighing approx. 337 grams, it is the most compact and lightest camera in this overview, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C.
Nikon Coolpix P1100
The Coolpix P1100 is built around one feature: the longest optical zoom range in this overview. The NIKKOR 24-3000mm zoom (125x) brings subjects within reach that fall out of frame with other cameras. Optical VR keeps images steady, and RAW capture is supported. The camera uses a smaller 1/2.3-inch image sensor with 16 megapixels.
The P1100 films in 4K up to 30fps and has a fully articulating screen and a 0.39-inch OLED viewfinder. Special modes for birds, the moon and fireworks are built in. The camera weighs approx. 1410 grams and charges via USB-C.

Which type of photographer is each camera suited to?
Below is a short description of what each camera is best suited to, so you can judge for yourself which one fits your situation best.
Sony RX10 V
The RX10 V is suited to photographers and videographers who want the most complete package in one camera. The wide zoom range of 24 to 600mm makes the camera usable in a wide range of situations: from wildlife and bird photography at a distance to sport, aviation, safari and travel photography. Fast autofocus with AI recognition for people, animals, birds and vehicles keeps you sharp even with unpredictable subjects, without having to switch manually. For videographers, the RX10 V offers professional features such as S-Log3, S-Cinetone, 4:2:2 10-bit recording and Auto Framing, combined with 4K up to 120fps. The weather-resistant body also makes the camera usable in less than ideal conditions, and the NP-FZ100 battery lasts longer than its predecessor's.
Sony RX10 IV (no longer available)
The RX10 IV is suited to those looking for the trusted RX10 platform with the same proven ZEISS 24-600mm lens and 1.0-inch sensor. The camera delivers solid performance for both photo and video, with Fast Hybrid AF and eye detection for people and animals. With 4K video up to 30fps, HFR slow motion and S-Log2/S-Log3, it's also a capable video camera. The RX10 IV is a fitting choice for those who want the RX10 characteristics without the latest features of the V version, such as the extended AI recognition, higher burst speed and 4K up to 120fps.
Panasonic Lumix TZ300
The TZ300 is the choice for those who want a camera with a 1.0-inch sensor that fits in a jacket pocket. At approx. 337 grams and with its compact body, it's the most portable camera in this overview, ideal for travel photographers and everyday use where size and weight matter. The Leica 24-360mm lens offers a versatile range for everyday situations. Points to note: the TZ300 has no built-in viewfinder and a fixed screen without tilt option, which can be a limitation in some shooting situations. The autofocus uses contrast detection, which makes it less suitable for fast-moving subjects.
Nikon Coolpix P1100
The P1100 is the choice for those who prioritise maximum optical reach. With 24-3000mm (125x), this is the camera for capturing distant subjects that are out of reach for other cameras: birds at a great distance, aircraft, the moon or other celestial bodies. Built-in modes such as Bird Watching and Moon Mode support these specific uses. Points to note: the 1/2.3-inch sensor is smaller than that of the other cameras in this overview, which limits performance at higher ISO values. The camera weighs approx. 1410 grams, which makes it less suitable for carrying every day or for travel photography where weight counts.
